After several years establishing an artisanal knitwear business online—with a loyal customer base on social media—OUAA’s owner decided to move her ecommerce website from Squarespace to the greener pastures of Shopify. However, she needed to make sure she could:

  1. Replicate the branding and aesthetics faithfully using Shopify.
  2. Ensure all of the important store data would be migrated including customers, products, photos, pages, blogs and shipping rules.
  3. Minimise website downtime and avoid any headaches with the domain name.

The Plan

Preferring to work in-person, we sat down with the owner at our Hobart office over several hours and identified all the elements.

  • What could we use Shopify’s import/export tools for?
  • What would have to be manually replicated?
  • Which Shopify Theme would best fit the branding and feature requirements?
  • What URLs would need to be redirected to protect SEO rankings?
  • How would Squarespace’s email marketing tools be replaced in Shopify?
  • Do orders need to be migrated?

The Outcome

Answering the above questions, and more, we developed a concrete plan to execute each element of the migration. With a detailed plan, the owner was able to undertake much of the process herself, with Getbusi called in to supplement the hands-on effort as needed.

The migration was completed in time for OUAA’s next seasonal launch and has been sailing smoothly on Shopify ever since. The business was later sold to a new owner, who has retained Getbusi for occasional support, consultation and maintenance updates.

Testimonial

"Working with Dan and the team at Getbusi has been fantastic. As a small-business owner and with so many things to do at the same time, it was a relief to have them on my corner while migrating my website to a new platform. They're quick at replying, efficient, friendly, patient and supportive. I'll keep working with them and can't recommend them enough."
